Now this place is something else and I can highly recommend.Chefs with a vision and absolute quality food here.
The tuna tartar was fantastic and had some wild salmon sashimi from the red copper river in Alaska. Not cheap but not too pricy either. Probably about 15 tables. Nice cosy seating, friendly staff. Review at Yelp

Down in the basement of Macy's you find this sushi bar.
It will give you your quick fix while shopping if you can't be bothered to go outside.
Nothing fancy otherwise.
Spent about $20 for this quick fix; maki roll, some sashimi and a beer.
I don't have the urge to go back here.
Note that they have happy hour from 5pm to close.

Tip: If you have a non-US passport, go to the Customer Service at Macy's, show your passport and you will get a Welcome Visitor Reduction voucher, valid for the rest of your stay. Everything about 10% off, except perfume.

Sophisticated seafood restaurant located in the financial district.
Friends invited me, just to taste the Tuna Tartar after they had been raving about it during the day.
Indeed they were so right, pure heaven and tasted even better with some great Californian wine of which I should have written down the name.
Didn't try anything else but may do next time when enough cash with me...
Price range: $$$$
They post the recipe the tuna tartar on their site, have a try!

Nice seating, tables, bars and even private rooms.
Their black cod is to die for. Try the sake primer, several small glasses with different sake. I didn't know there was so much variety in sake (hips).
Fun detail; if you go to the restroom, you get some Japanese language lessons at the same time.
Fancy place, fancy prices as well but keep coming back here

Connecting flights at Schiphol airport and spotted this sushi bar located in hall 2.
If you have the time, leave the transit zone and get you sushi fix and anything else you need in the Schiphol Plaza. It is just a 10 minute walk away from the gates. You will find supermarkets, take-away restaurants and much more to fill your goodies bag on the long haul flight:).
Ok, you need a sushi fix, but paying 25 euros for a small take-away box with 6 pieces? Naaah
Tip: While you are in the Netherlands, try some typical Dutch 'Sashimi' called Maatjes (raw hering) or buy some Dutch licorice candy called drop. Caution, only Dutch people seem to like drop.
