Waraji - I miss you...

Ok, Waraji is def my favorite spot when in Raleigh.
Must have been here about 40+ times. With friends, collegues, alone.
Tried many other places in Raleigh but this one steals my heart.
Interior is ok, modern but zen.
Service is good (but hey, they know me by now)

You can take friends here who don't like Sushi, as they have many wonderful cooked dishes on the menu as well.

My standard menu:
Gyoza
Torro & Salmon Sashimi
Salmon skin roll
Volunteer roll (remember this one!!)
Some green tea & hot Sake afterward.

All this for about 25 USD per person

Other places I went to in raleigh:

  • Sushi Tsune: opposite the 'famous' Snoopy Hot Dog is not too bad. Good food, very nice staff, no frills place.
  • Sushi Thai: Very average.
  • Sushi Blues: Not impressed and not very japanese, didnt see or hear any Blues either.
  • Mura at Northhills: They do some sushi but this is more a trendy beautiful place where the food is really really crap.
  • Tokyo House at Six Forks: Not too bad, will do the fix if needed
  • Kanki: Sad sad sad, avoid

Ta-Maki - Wimbledon, UK

Small bar and take-away sushi place located in the Centre Court shopping mall.
They opened a second shop in the Wimbledon train station last year.

Been here several times, mainly quick take-away for lunch. The quality is good and not expensive.
They also have a loyalty card; buy 10 get one roll free.

Fresh sashimi & friendly staff.

Maki Yaki - South Wimbledon

A 10 minute walk from the Centre Court shopping mall, open late you'll find Makiyaki.
Great rolls, try the Cherry Blossom!

Friendly staff, nice green tea and a great selection of rolls.
For the non sushi lover there is enough choice for cooked dishes.

Affordable; about 20 GBP per person max for dinner.
They have very good lunch deals.

Sarku Japan Sushi - Atlanta Lenox Mall

Needed a sushi fix after spending hours and hours in the Lenox shopping mall.
Found my way to the foodcourt and spotted this sushi bar.

It is what you expect from a foodcourt sushi-bar.
Cheap and cheerful, you can get your fix under $10.

Ray is in the City - Atlanta USA

Nice modern place trendy restaurant.
Went here on my own and not felt I wanted to hang out longer than needed.
Many business folks.
Sushi was ok but missed the wow factor which you could expect when you see the place.
Asked if they had torro, but the sushi chef didn't know what I was talking about....
Pricy...

Sushi Tomi - Paris Republique

During my stay over new year in this wonderful city, we found Sushi Tomi on a little side street of the Place de la Replublique.

Small cosy restaurant were I felt at home.
Tables are pretty close to each other so you will probably end up chatting to your neighbour.
Service was very friendly.

Ordered a mixed sushi/ sashimi platter which was very tasty.
Menu's ranging from 10 - 16 euro, including Miso, a salad and rice.
Excellent value for money!

Tip: In any sushi restaurant in Paris they serve cheese yakitori. Cheese wrapped in a thin slice of beef. Not very Japanese but worth giving a try.
